MARGARET ROBERTSON

Margaret Robertson of British Columnia is one of the original Canadian breeder/owners of the Basenji dog. In fact, when the original B.C.O.C. was formed in 1964, she was the first President. She owned the first Best In Show Basenji in BOTH Canada and the United States. The Basenji's name was "Can/Am Ch Dainty Dancer of Glenairley" and Dancer's image was on the original membership cards of the old club. Margaret went on to breed Basenjis under the Merlea prefix and until recently, when her judging started to take her away from home a lot, was owned by at least one Basenji.

She is currently one of our breeder judges and was awarded the Pedigree award for judging excellence. She judged the Hoosier Specialty in the late 1990s and participated with the members of the B.C.O.C. executive in a discussion on possible revisions to the Canadian Basenji standard. She has given a number of breed seminars to help educate judges about our beloved breed. Mrs. Robertson judged our B.C.O.C. 1990 National Specialty in Woodstock, Ontario, the year following the formation of the current club.

Margaret has given much of her life to the betterment of the breed and is still willingly giving of her knowledge and time.
